Hi folk,

I think I have mentioned that we run a B&B here in Picton and of course we get guests from all over the world who sadly believe that Tui/Steinlager and all the rest represent what NZ beer is all about. I do buy some craft beers from the independant breweries in riggers and try to do a bit of beer evangelism where possible. My question is though, has anyone produced a flyer or give-away guide to NZ craft brews and pubs that we could distribute to put travellers right? As we all know, it would be considered a travesty if visitors to NZ were unable to readily procure famed NZ wines, yet the glorious beers we do have suffer virtual 'black market' status. We all know the tied house problems we have, but a guest tap or two in a pub would help everybody. Anyhow, it would be great if there is some sort of guide brochure that we can lay our hands on because it gets a bit long-winded to try and explain verbatum to each beer lover where to forage for good beer. Any tips most welcomed.

Cheers,

Ian

Someone does a fantastic job of this in Victoria, Australia. It'd be good to see a simlar thing happen here.
do you have a link for that victoria guide stu?
no link - I've only seen the little booklet that is at tourist centres and the like.

you going over there? if so, say it is for AIBA... as Sam and I are heading over.
nah unfortunately I can't make it (assuming the AIBA is the end of May?), will be in Europe and after that, West Coast. Not the west coast with Greymouth, the one with Oregon and California...:P
Sounds like a job for SOBA!
Not too sure about pubs but here is a list/ directory of breweries. It does illustrate that there is plenty more than Tui/ Steinlager to be had in this country.

Cheers Horace, that's a help. I can print out a couple of those for the eager beer enthusiasts when I meet them.
There was talk of producing such a guide at the last SOBA AGM. Once the new SOBA beerfinder is fleshed out the plan (I think) was to use the info to publish a booklet.
The new SOBA website should be live soon (HHHHAAAAAAALELUJAH!) and will feature Rob's amazing "beerfinder" app.
Encouraging stuff - many thanks for the comments. How we suffer in our research to enligten the needy! So much beer and so little time.

something we've been working on at the pub. Feel free to pass it around to anyone who may be interested. It's printable too. There should be a beer tourism trail in the top-of-south hopefully this can be a small step towards it.
