Event Description

SOBA is excited about the April 1st release of Mac’s Brewjolais seasonal beer, and is looking to celebrate the event in style and en masse.

Brewjolais is brewed to celebrate the hop harvest, and uses freshly picked “wet” (undried) hops from Nelson late in the brewing process. It’s a rare type of beer, and one that SOBA believes deserves recognition.

SOBA plans to show its appreciation for Brewjolais by organising a synchronised toast to Lion Nathan and the beer at all of the locations it will be served. SOBA members will descend upon the six Mac’s Brewbars around the country and raise a glass of the deliciously hoppy beverage to the brewers who make it, and the company which gives them the freedom to push the boundaries of beer a little.

The locations are:
Northern Steamship Co. - Quay Street, Auckland
Nuffield Street Trading Co. - Newmarket, Auckland
Neighbourhood - Kingsland, Auckland
Shed 22 - Taranaki Street Wharf, Wellington
The Vic - Trafalgar Street, Nelson
Poplar Lane - cnr Ash & Poplar Street, Christchurch

I'll be "showing my respect" at one of the Auckland Bars look forward to seeing you all there. Just keep updating what preference of bar people have

Martin, do you know if this beer will make its way to the Mac's Brew Bar here in New Plymouth?

I didn't know there was a Brewbar in New Plymouth! There isn't one listed on the Mac's website.

I will check with my contact at Mac's

Yeah - it's a bit funny. It has "Macs Brewbar" written in the windows, but "The Grumpy Mole" on the roof hangers. I'm all confused about it. I hope even one keg makes it there - it'll be the only reason I'd go to a bar. Haven't been to one of them in donkeys now.

Fuck it, after the day I just had, I am going to take the night off work and get muntered on Brewjolais (even if it is still a couple of weeks away).

I'll be stopping over in Auckoland on 1st April on my way to a friends place at Mangowhai Heads, so would love to catch up with other members there. Just need the details of where the bar is.

Northern Steamship for me - downtown.
Pilgrim, here's a map: Northern Steamship

Thanks for that Barry. Sounds Ideal, I'm staying at the Grand Chancellor. Just waiting to hear back from Martin as to where he will be. I'd like to catch up with him.

Martin - any idea if it'll be on at lunchtime? I can't do an evening thing but might cruise down earlier in the day instead.

I've no idea when it will actually go on. It's due on that day, and I'm assured that it will be on by 6pm but whether it will be on earlier or not I don't know.

Pilgrim - I won't know which bar I'm going to be at until closer to the event. The easiest one for me is Quay St, but if I'm needed at one of the others to deliver the toast, I'll be there. At the moment I'm struggling to get anyone to go to Newmarket and only one person for Kingsland.
