Martin, I was just wondering if you would like a bring some guys through for a brewery visit. We are doing a bit of brewing in the next week, so it would give your tour party a chance at trying a variety of beers which aren't always on tap.
They would also get a chance see the brewery, ask any brewing questions as well as see our packaging line.Best of all, no cost for the beers.
Saturday afternoon would be best if you are keen, before the end of april ( not the 25th as I am away).
I had a catch-up beer with Larry from Brewers Bar at Mount Maunganui on Friday night as I procured a 25kg bag of Marris Otter from him. He is happy to take a group through for a bit of a tour and tasting. I suggested a $5 per head charge to cover his costs.
I am also happy to follow-on with a BBQ and a few more beers at home for those that are keen. Just need to set a date. If you can suggest a preferred month. I will go ahead a sort a firm date. Cheers Craig.
Thanks for the props Martin. More than happy to send you some thoughts if you are hoping to brew it. Craig has 20L left if you want to give your handpump a test run too ;-)

Martin, do you remember if there were problems pouring our Fuggles at BrewNZ, I remember someone mentioned it and the tasting notes we have just recieved sounds like there may have been an issue with the beer.
Hey Martin, I'm planning to brew your donkey oatie this weekend, with some minor adjustments, maris otter, pale chocolate and 1968 yeast. Whats the deal with toasting your own victory malt? I imagine you whack some pale in the oven at a certain temp for a certain time? Thanks for the recipe, I love a good oatmeal stout, but only tend to make 1 a year.

That's for sure Martin. I've been in the industry since 1985 when I joined the Wanganui Computer Centre as a trainee programmer. I was threatened with redundancy in November last year but got a reprieve on Christmas Eve. In the interim time I looked around for jobs in Wanganui and couldn't find anything that would pay even half as much as IT work.
I wouldnt say its overpowering, just noticable, and alot of people would say its to style.. Definately a nice malt balance and soft bitterness, really quaffable and good body and carb! Cheers :o)
Hi Martin,
I'll be going to the Quay Street venue. I have some presents for SOBA members ;-)
A friend who worked as a barman in the UK collected bar towels and gave me a whole heap when he was having a cleanout. I told him I would distribute them to worthy recipients. I'll bring a long a dozen or so to distribute to any SOBA members there.
If you're going to make it later I'll put one aside for you. There's a nice Fullers London Pride one there :-)
Cheers
Pete.
Hi Martin, I'm quite keen to brew your Donkey Oatie. Do you think that it would benefit from doing a boil reduction of the first runnings ? Also if it is mashed at 70 deg what would you be sparging at ? 77 - 78 ?

That must be as opposed to a Black IPA? Which you'll be able to drink in a month or so...

Thanks Martin - I'll mention this on the CS8 thread so anyone who wants to take you up on the offer can contact you.
