We spoke about creating a discussion so people who have or people who are thinking about and/or building can share pic's info and pitfalls to avoid.

Just about finished building my bench and hopefully will have a chance to start wiring it up this weekend. Pics to follow shortly.

Have a look on aliexpress. Or if you're really cheap, go to the scrappy, you'll pick them up for a buck a piece.

I totally agree the rest of the design is awesome.  I have thought about using a piece of pvc pipe to support the wire for about 8 inches out of the 2 elements I have remaining....  it basically comes down to the fact that the wire is too thin in the cord.. so gets too hot, then shorts if there is any movement while its hot.     I am planing my next kettle and like the look of the ones people are bringing in from amazon.

I did a bit of looking on the Aussie Homebrewer forum thread and saw they are recommending this one - similar to the Keg King but the "guard" looks much better.

I got a reply from Allan at 5 Star Distilling - looks like you can get one sent over to NZ for approx. AU$28 shipping, so total that would be AU$90 for the element & guard + shipping = AU$118 or approx. just under NZ$130 landed.

Doesn't seem too bad for full SS and no worry with the thing killing you!

I got an Aliexpress element, not sure of the tread size so need to take it into somewhere to try a few nuts, any suggestions on where id be able to get a nut to fit it? this is the element if it helps http://www.aliexpress.com/item/AC-220V-2KW-Water-Boiler-Heater-Elem...

Anzor are pretty good for stainless fittings and fixtures.

Cheers lads. Nick I only need it for the HLT would incoloy still be the best material?

If its only for HLT a regular element would be fine Im sure

Is this a good deal for a PID, SSR and temp probe? Is that all I need to control a 2 or 3kw element in my kettle? (plus wiring etc - bro-in-law is a sparky...)

You can't that K type thermocouple sensor. You'll need a PT100.

OK thanks

I think I will go for a sesto - more info and support around for them and not much more expensive.

Does this look like a good deal for a Sesto with a PT100 probe? I would need to buy an SSR separately.
