I got told off for making a mess of the stove last weekend whilst brewing. To add to this, some good folks recommended that I get a burner before buying a chiller. (My wife would agree now. :) )

This leads me to questions about burners. Whilst searching other threads, I noticed the ones for Bunnings, and beerbelly.co.au, and even the rambo burner at brewcraft. However, I am unsure which is the best purchase for the money.

Assuming that I do not have a whole lot of cash to throw around, which would you suggest I go with? Remember that i would need to purchase the whole lot, regulator, tank, and burner.

Cheers!

Good idea.

I went to a pawn shop to see if they had anything usable, and found a 9kg propane tank. Afterwards, just picked up the three ring burner and regulator from Bunnings.

Even if I want to change to something more flash in the future, this will probably make my life a lot easier.

Now just for the grain to show up, and I am in business. :)
What did you pay for the burner? I went to Manukau bunnings today and they wanted $98 for a 3-ring. I am sure it was about $70 a couple of weeks ago?
Patrick,

I paid about 68.50.

The $98 one includes a stand. I bought the one that is only the burner, without the stand. They were in the same area of the store.

I hope this helps!
Went to Bunnings on Ti Rakau drive at lunchtime, they only had one left and it was missing a fitting. Might try Manukau again after work - need it by the weekend, have Sunday afternoon booked as the first brew day!
Mitre10 Mega on TeIrirangngigigiigianaia or however it's spelt.

That's where I got mine for a similar price.
Cheers - wonder if the one at southgate will stock them also. Will try there if bunnings in manukau fails me.
Bunnings sucks - mitre 10 mega came thru though, so I think I now have everything I need to do my first brew (apart from ingredients of course). Will let you know how I get on.
what did you get? would you mind sharing how much it costs at Mitre 10?
Just the triple-ring cast iron one. Bunnings had it for 68.50 (but none in stock), I ended up paying 87 at mitre 10, after a quick calculation involving how much fuel I would waste driving to yet another bunnings store. Thats the thing with bunnings, they are dead cheap, but so far I have found the staff unhelpful, and a lot of the stock is not on the shelves or damaged. I just wanted to get it all ready in plenty of time for the weekend. One thing worth noting: one of the taps on the valve unit wasn't working, so I unscrewed it and found the little hole where the gas flows thru was blocked with grease, so I poked a peice of wire thru it. Goes really good now, so if anyone has one where one of the rings is a bit sluggish, this might be the cause.
Fingers need to do the walking. If it was a mitre 10 mega, they should have beat the bunnings price by 15%?
Oh well, I didn't know that, not worth me burning another $20 of gas to go and argue about it.
