Yea, that's the one I haven't tried yet. I've had a variety of experiences with smoked beers, so looking forward to it. Did you smoke the malt yourself or buy it smoked? I've been looking at trying to do an amber/brown using 'home made' mesquite smoked malt. I'll get around to it later in the year.
That was it, the Robust Porter... I have peaks and troughs re being a hop-head. At the moment my pallet is favouring the more malty, lower bitterness ales. Again, loved the flavours of the porter, but a wee more bitter than I'm leaning towards at the moment.
Hey Mike, tried your NZ Pilsner last night, man did I enjoy it. The balance of bitterness and aroma was spot on for my tastes. The NZ hops really did shine - it's exactly what I though a NZ Pilsner should taste like. It actually reminded me a lot of Tuatara IPA, funnily enough.
I'd love the recipe to try converting to a partial mash. Or at least your hop bill and schedule!?!? Cheers!
Hi Mike, you are missing Bar Ed from you list. As a Wellingtonian, surely you've been there? Anyway, I am coordinating the volunteers for BrewNZ. I see you are coming along. Did you know that if you volunteer for a session, you can get into another for free? Drop me an email at stephaniecoutts@yahoo.com.au if you are interested. I can send you the volunteer form. That will make your ticket free. Steph.
Hi Mike,
Saw your message to SOBA about the Wellington Conference and had a look at your website. Laughed my socks off. Now I understand your avatar, you obviously love getting plastered :-)
Pete.
Try and keep me away :-)
I see the SOBA announcement mentioned a competition for APA or NZ Pale Ale, I thought it was APA only? Be a bit difficult for the judges trying to judge two styles against each other and anyway my 58 IBU APA will kick ass :-)
Cool. I'm well proud of the #9. What hops did you use?
In return, you got a good IPA recipe? Gonna make a cask conditioned IPA for next yrs Marchfest. It's got to be traditional. 5% plus, nicely hoppy. My beers are malt driven, so the hops need to back it up.
Let me know if you have anything.
Cheers, M
hahaha.....bogun brewers unit! Might be the name of my next brewery lol. SAeriously, I started @ 14 while at Upper Hutt College and compared brews with my maths teacher, a Vietnamese guy who made a great simple lager.
