Hey guise!
Carboys... Where oh where would I find some cheap(ish) 20L(ish) glass carboys?
I've asked the glassblowers at university and they sell them - for $600! Haha.
I know a shop online that sells them for $75 each, but after shipping it would be more like $110 or so.
Your help is greatly appreciated. Happy beer-ing.

Are you not happy to ferment in plastic? There are "Better Bottles" which are plastic, but shaped like a carboy...
You can get them for about $70 from the malthouse on Hillside Road.

How are you finding your beer now stu since your using one?
I've only made a few beers in it... they're ok.
I love cleaning and sanitising it, so that's a start!
I might put wheels on it... it's not easy to move when it has 40L in it.
Yeah I bet it would be hard to move, lift etc... and easy to clean you wouldnt realy have to worry about scratches in plastic and what not!!
Was Digital IPA fermented in the new stainless fermenter?

Did you notice a conical character to it?

I've made one beer that I really like in there - a strong belgian dark (that needs a tweak but could be very good) - and about three or four beers that are so so. That's probably about my standard hit rate.
I didn't notice any conical character but I drank it from a conical glass so that may have confused the issue.

I'm planninig a Belgian Dark Strong for the next case swap so I may need to pick your brain over the coming weeks. I was planning on brewing a version of "Brew Like A Home Brewer" from brewing Classic Styles but with a few subs. I need to use remaining T-58 packet.
Guessing that your starting gravity will be pretty high... One T-58 will probably not be enough, so you may want to slip in an S04 or a US05 too.

I added invert sugar after a few days of fermenting (about enough to boost it 1%abv), it really dried the beer out nicely but it left me wishing there was just a little more malt complexity. Nobody else complained, in fact this was one of my fastest disappearing kegs ever! Definitely well loved.

I'll look back on my notes and meet you at D4 for a 360 degree analysis one day. I feel like a Maresdous Blond.
Is the conical pretty well insulated, or is it going to be a bit of a bugger during winter time? I assume a glycol heating jacket is warranted, unless there's some DIY insulation trick that would do the job?
