Hey buddy,

Was just reading through the "Hi" thread and saw youre based in browns bay... Im not a member of SOBA or anything, but it seems theres heaps of brewers in the bays, and the shore/whangaparoa etc, so we should all really try meet up for a massive tasting session or brew day? You keen?

I will have to check who the duty manager will be for that day. Should be no problem as long as there is no major events on that day. Get back to me with a time and I will see what i can do.

It might actually be easier for you to ring Newmarket, ask who the duty manager will be on that day, say you are bringing a group in and can they put aside a area for that time. If you have any problems get back to me and I will make sure it happens. It should be no problem as long as there is no major event at that time.
Get back to me regarding how you get on.
Hopefully we can catch up when we release the next seasonal.

Hay you always seem to be at the pubs when the beers are getting towards the end of there batches. The Oktoberfest is almost finished, we brewed it in July so it getting on a bit, the fuggles and monks are also getting towards the end of the present batches. We have made some changes to the fuggles, for my taste its the best its ever been.
Did you have any problems, was the service, beers and staff all ok.

Yeah all the beers are served to cold, I tend too order two beers at once and let the fuggles warm up. The Oktoberfest needs to be warm as well, then the vienna malt comes out more, its brewed to style so there is not to much hop, more of a session beer. The next special is a Belgian wit which should be out in early december, should be another free tasting so I will put a posting on this site to let you know. Maybe we can catch up for a beer then.

Just in case you didnt read my reply on what are you brewing... RE your delayed yeast...

What temp did you pitch at? Did you make a starter?

I used Wyeast 2000 and direct pitched at 26, it still took just over 48 hours before fermentation started, thats when I took it down to 10 and its been cranking along nicely...

If you repitch dried yeast you wont be able to reuse the Wyeast packet...

Martin, we are doing a free tasting of our Belgian Wit at Ellerslie,Newmarket and Hamilton next wednesday between 6 pm and 7 pm. I will be at Ellerslie so if you or any of the other SOBA members would like to try it and talk some beer talk then come down.
Also I have some Wyeast smac packs which are about 6 months old, we have just got some new stock in. If anybody is coming down and they would like them, then get back to me and I will bring them down.

Hi Martin,

I hear through the hopvine that you are hosting a BBQ on the 27th for the North Shore brewers? Hope this doesn't sound too pushy, but any chance of me coming along?

I'm still annoyed at missing the auckland guild/SOBA bbq in december because of a work function. I'm super keen to try your and the others brews, and of course bring some of my own....

Regards
Brett

If you do decide to purchase a grain mill, I'd be interested in ordering one too and going in on the shipping costs. Kicking myself for not going in on Steve Baker's order a few months ago...
