I have to admit, I'm a little tired of massively high ABV beers and looking forward to getting back to NZ.

Just had the smoked porter last week... it was ok.
The Green flash reminds me that Le Freak is hiding in my cellar and desperate for a Yeastie Boys board meeting.

Le Freak was nice. But you get the feeling with all of these 9+% ABV beers, any faults are hidden since the consumer will be alcoholically numbed after a only couple of sips. Definitely confirmed myself as a session beer guy. Almost at the stage of wanting to sip a good single malt instead when I get to a certain ABV level. Wonder if other beer fans feel like this?

Marin San Quentin's Breakfast Stout. Now there's a beer I've not seen similar to in NZ. Feels like the morning after where a pick me up espresso meets the taste of a furry cuban cigar tongue. Delightful. Craving Oysters.

Very surprised at how subtle the smoke is in Stone Smoked Porter. The irony of ending the week with a subtle beer. Definitely something I'd like to have a crack at brewing.

Dunno if you've seen it but there's a clone recipe in an reasonably recent issue of BYO.

I have the link to the actual recipe on my laptop... I'll see if I can dig it up.

Im going to sound like a real tosser here but My Smoked Porter is better than Stones brew that.

What's the grain bill in it? The nice bit about the Stone brew was that it was subtle on the smoke, unlike something like Smoking Bishop. Both nice beers in themselves, but I think I might struggle to get through 20L of Smoking Bishop (though that in itself wouldn't be a bad thing for how long a chance it would get to condition over time).

Yeah, have a feeling I have that issue of BYO back home. Mike, what's your version?
