A big thank you for Colin for letting us host this event at the Malthouse and to Dion and Carl for judging the event. The winner of WBC IV went to Simon David Kelly with his intresting but stunning Tamarillo Ale it was a deserved winner as it was well executed for the style and just a good drop!!

With every winner there is a loser and this wooden spoon went to the winner of WBC III Dale Cooper with his KiwiFruit Wit, Dales choice for the WBC V is for everyone to brew one of the countrys leading West Coast styled IPA Hallertau's Maximus Humulus Lupulus, which steve has posted the recipe here; http://www.forum.realbeer.co.nz/forum/topics/maximus-cloning?commen...

So what the idea is is for everyone to brew this beer the same as posted (I can help with the Gladfield Pale malt) Some might think this is strange but I think its ingenious, as it will all give us an idea of how diffrent brewers and brewerys differ in creating essentially the same beer and the best Clone wins!!!!!!

The Date for this event is scheduled for the Saturday the 23 of October @ 3pm

As mentioned I can assist with the Gladfield Pale malt so just drop us a line if you would like to use it for the brew other wise all other listed ingredients can be found @ www.libertybrewing.co.nz

How did it go?
Who won?
Dave Wood took out the prize in a small (3.5 entries) field.

They were all very tasty beers, but Simon's ended up on the bottom. He selected "Rye" as the theme for the next conference beer.

Despite the small number of entries, it was great that lots of people who weren't entering beers dropped in for some socialisation and to test out a few other non-competition homebrews.

Thanks again to Colin for hosting us at the Malthouse (and for judging as well!)
Well Said Llew, I was going to write up a post about the WBC V but you all ready said it all apart from thanks to Steph Coutts, Neil Miller and trainee celebrity judge Danny Wallace, if you dont know who he is google him ( I Did hahaha) he's a very funny man.

Yip, next one is any style of beer as long as it has rye in it, and Im thinking of it on the Saturday the 22nd of Jan 2011?
Will it work for everyone? its going to work for me no matter what as im booking time of Daddy duties for it now!! and or bring them along like Stu and I
I'll brew something... been thing about rye anyway, so this is perfect. I think I am around. i might bring my two older boys this time, so anyone else who wants to bring kids - do it (as it'll make my life easier).
