Thought it might be handy to have a thread for some of the more advanced brewers to give some advice on recipes.

Let's see how it goes eh...

I am hoping it settles out Mark, but there is a niggle in the back of my mind that tells me the taste is vinegar rather than cider :-( Could be a tipper yet, which is a shame as it happened in the secondary rather than primary fermenter. Will leave it for a month and see what it is like.

A mate asked me to brew him a keg of something NZ Draught kind of thing for his 40th, I was drinking at the time and said yes, anyone got any recipes for something along those lines that'll convert him to real beer?

How about checking the Spellbinder recipe of Studio1's

Good spotting that looks alright, best I get over your shout today and get me some Riwaka hops, got to love any excuse to get to the brew store

Had a taste last night off the keg, subbed wai-iti as no riwaka at local brew store, don't mind it myself actually, pretty much on the money of a NZ Draughty thing but with some nice hop character

hows it going every one, I have been lurking the forum for some time, and its time to say hello and put a post up,

i have done hell of a lot of extract brews (out of the cans) and never been happy with the results at all ,the out of the can homebrew is quite like voting,,  your only ever choosing the best of the worst it seems

i have never done a all grain brew but have read loads , the problem im having is i dont have a starting point

im after a IPA recipe for the BIAB method , i had a IPA a few weeks ago and noticed large tropical passion-fruit and mango  flavors , i would like to try some thing like this ,, been trolling threw recipes but they bont seem to have flavor profiles with them

so if some one could throw a recipe up i can try i would really appreciate  it ,

cheers daniel

You could just grab a recipe kit from one of the online suppiers. They will provide all the grain and all the hops and will mill it etc.

Both of these online shops have recipe kits

Sounds to me like you want an American IPA style of beer. BIAB is not really any different to any other allgrain recipe in the ingredients you use, it is just the mash step that is slightly different... basically you can adapt any all grain recipe you find out there to easily be biab.

The allgrain site kits have links to the recipes... and my pick of the bunch would be the clone kit for Epic Pale Ale. Go to your local craft beer retailer and you should be able to pick up a bottle of this and see if it is something you would like to make! http://allgrain.co.nz/product_info.php?cPath=29_36&products_id=...

To add to Raphps good advice, the flavours you are detailing are hop derived. Do a search on hop profiles to seek the flavours you seek. When you know which hops to target plug them into here, or google, to search for recipes. It sounds like you may be describing hopwired, an awesome beer, for which there is detail available. Nelson Sauvin, Motueka and Southern Cross :-)

Good luck and welcome to all grain.

One other piece of advice, your first brew is unlikely to go perfectly smoothly so perhaps try a style without so many expensive hops :-)

I'd try a bit of this. might be a tad adventurous but hey why not

6.000 kg GladField Pale Ale (5.5 SRM) 86.1 %
0.513 kg Munich Malt (9.0 SRM) 7.4 %
0.227 kg Carafoam (2.0 SRM) 3.3 %
0.227 kg Melanoiden Malt (20.0 SRM)3.3 %
15.000 g Citra [12.00 %] - Boil 60.0 min  14.3 IBUs
35.000 g Citra [12.00 %] - Boil 15.0 min  16.5 IBUs
35.000 g Citra [12.00 %] - Boil 10.0 min 12.1 IBUs
35.000 g Citra [12.00 %] - Boil 5.0 min 6.6 IBUs
35.000 g Citra [12.00 %] - Boil 1.0 min 1.4 IBUs
1.0 pkg SafAle English Ale (DCL/Fermentis #S-04) [23.66 ml] Yeast 11 -
85.000 g Citra [12.00 %] - Dry Hop 7 Days Hop 12 0.0 IBUs

its got loads of tropical passion fruit flavour going on loads of hops though which isn't a bad thing

That looks like this:

except for the 60 min addition.....

Good spotting, back in my dirty big hoppy beer brewing phase to cover any mistakes I made, got to love them hops, wasn't a bad drop actually

So what was the IPA you tried Dan?
That might give evyone a lead on what recipe advice is best

My pick, from my own recent brews is Digital IPA and a quick google'll give you a recipe.
Whatever you do, I hope it goes well

Cheers, jt
