bought a us-05 yeast pack in 500gm. says once opened have to use within 7 days.

I'd probably only get through about 100gm in a week. 100 litre system.. what's best way to get around the expiry date?

is it o.k to put in smaller bags and refrigerate or would i have to vacuum pack at bare minimum? if so what's cheapest system around?

Keep in the fridge in air tight container and it will be fine.

When doing small test brews I snip the corner off the yeast packet, sprinkle half a teaspoon into the cooled wort.. the snipped whole is then covered with sellotape, the yeast return to airtight container in the fridge.. has last about 8 test brews over 6 months like that.

I had 100 grams of US05 in a zip-lock bag - used over 6 months or so and had no problems. Seemed to get a bit slower towards the end but no problems with contamination.

thanks for the feedback. always nice to know real world over theory :) yer might split it up into 50 grams then airlock them once open..

cheers guys
