I recently put down some Isinglass Finings on a mail order. The goods arrived today but the Isinglass was out of stock so I've been sent a Kieselsol/Gelatine product instead.

Now I like my beers pure and free from chemicals so I'm dubious about this one, I've heard of Gelatine finings but what is Kieselsol? It also mentions Citric Acid (E330) and 'Preservative' (E202) on the label. They don't sound good.

What do you guys reckon? Should I chuck it in the brew or chuck it in the bin?

Barry, thanks for the advice. I think for the next batch I'll try racking half the brew into gelatin and half as normal (I have two spare fermenters) and compare the results over 2 weeks, a month, etc.

I know Gelatin and Isinglass are widely used but it was the Kiesesol I was unsure of. I was keen on using Isinglass after a trip I made to the Batemans brewery when I was back in England a few weeks ago. It used to be my local brew, now I live 10mins from the Tui brewery :(

Mmmm, beer jelly, now there's a thought....
