Hi

i,  I have the same hydrometer as you and I'm still not sure if I'm reading it right.  Since we have the photo in front of us....  Do the numbers (10, 20, 30 etc) read off at the black line just underneath them? ie is a gravity of 1.040 when the liquid level is right at the bottom of the orange block?  and 1.010 at the bottom of the black block?  i think all the different colour put me off :-)  And would the reading of your hydrometer in the picture be roughly 1.026?

Thanks

Andy

These comments sometimes slip off the radar so I'll jump in here.

Yes they do.

And would the reading of your hydrometer in the picture be roughly 1.026?

Yes that looks about right.

Here's the way to take the correct reading:

And don't forget to adjust for temp:

Pre boil gravity supposed to be 1038 - must be a hot sample

It looks grey.  Is that just the lighting or is that a feature of malteurop pils.?

Think it's the 20% flaked wheat

Thanks for the info Mr Cherry.  It's good to have confirmation that I'm reading it right.

It looks grey.

That's probably the wall and the camera adjusting exposure.  Put it on front of a 70's orange wall and it'll look golden...

"feature of malteurop pils"

Not to be a hater, but I have found this to be the case!!

If colour was an issue I'd have a range of food colourings in the brewing arsenal
