I've tried this and I wouldn't go at the full bottle as a 'Quaffing beer'. I'd reccommend this after dinner with a couple of mates, blue cheese and some crackers.

Other options I've thought about are that it might rock with a bit of spice from a Belgian yeast, or swap the Maris Otter for Wheat to make a Gratz style-y beer. Glad you enjoyed it though and its a real compliment that you'd like to give the recipe a go yourself. I,m well chuffed with that.
Had this with a roast for dinner. Pours inky with no head and minimal carb, hints of woody smoke on the nose, but not alot imo. Roast and chocolate are followed by more smoke in the finish. A very moreish smoked beer, but personally, I wanted more smoke.
This accompanied me last week whilst trying to plough through an essay, I didn't write any notes I'm sorry but I did very much enjoy it. Great accompaniment to an otherwise stressful activity, perfect at 5.3% to not throw me off my game. I liked the level of smoke, sat well with my tastes.

Thanks for sharing Andrew !

Drank this with friends after dinner one evening, and they were definitely challenged by the smokiness of the beer!

I personally really enjoyed it - the coffee like aromas, and even appearance (with the head looking almost like a crema on a good long black!). In the nose I got brown sugar and raisins, and a roasty, almost ashen flavour. Finished bitter and smokey. Afraid I can't really add more than what the pack have already said, except I enjoyed. Cheers Andrew!
