Good stuff Adrian - feels good to be amongst a few other noobs, fine company we're surrounded by here!

we are indeed. cheers.

For once I read the recipe before I posted this note, and I'm glad I did. I would have looked a total pillock! I could have sworn there was some Sauvin in there, but obviously not!

Anyway, it pours beautifully - an old gold colour, with  perfect clarity and excellent head retention. Carbonation is also good.

The aroma is all gooseberries to me, hence the thought of Sauvin. Touch of grassiness which would have said NZ hops to me if it wasn't for the recipe above!

Body is good. Nice malt presence initially which is quickly overwhelmed by hop flavour. Finishes dry, and with a little bit of astringency. This would be my only complaint about the beer - a slight harshness on the finish which is maybe a result of it drying out a fraction too much. Otherwise an excellent beer. Shame my hop-spotting was so far off!

so you drank mine first?....  ha ha
5% alpha amarillo? What year crop is that?

um.. last year? I got it from Joe at Liberty in around December last year..   you like it huh aye Tyler.. you are going to make it next aye... ha ha

You sure it was 5% bro? Amarillo last few years has been between 7-8%, perhaps 8.5%?

Am yet to try this beer, but I know I will enjoy it!!

Purchased September 2010, 7.5%..

Damn Beersmith!!!

Yea I was looking at the IBUs, and I think the beer is much more bitter than what you've calculated.. Not that I really mind :)
I knew it ;o)

Pours very clear, deep honey colour, with a solid white fluffy head.  Subtle fruity aromas, with some yeast in the nose as well (I know that sounds naff but I don't really know how else to express myself).

Crisp hop flavour... Solid bitterness. With this amount of dryness I think I'd prefer the beer less bitter, or fruitier...

However I would still happily drink this all night. Good effort bro.

First beer for me from the swap - had at the end of a long evening writing a lit review to the sound of rain on the tin roof - man have I been hanging out for this!

I'm going to borrow from the format the Mad Fermentationist uses on his blog - I figured the structure helps me get my thoughts in line.

Appearance - light golden amber colour in the glass with a light white fluffy head which drops to a thin layer and leaves great lacing for the duration.

Smell - a very tempting crisp fruity aroma with a hint of (?) honey.

Taste - First flavour to me is the fruity hop (which is probably more the hop aroma coming into my nose on first taste).  This is followed by a clean light malty flavour thats balanced with the bittter crispness to follow.  This pleasant bitterness holds on and cleans my palate for the next mouthful.

Mouthfeel - lowish carbonation, which to me is spot on.  A rounded fulness in the mouth which cleans out with the bitterness to finish - a cracking summer arvo beer to me.

Overall - Mate - this would be a perfect house Golden Ale for me - a damn sight better balanced and full of flavour than the Amarillo hopped Golden I brewed a few months ago - I reckon I'm going to take something from your recipe for my next attempt.  Cheers!
