MAF say: "Commercially packaged, pelletised, hops must be accompanied by a  
manufacturer's certificate stating that the hop product has been milled 
and extruded into pellets
or inspected to confirm they have been milled and pelleted.

All other forms of hops(including compressed bales and plugs) 
must be heat treatment 
or an application can be made for a permit to process 
by brewing in a transitional facility. 
All dried hops must be securely contained. 
Any dried hop residues from brewing must be contained 
and collected for quarantine disposal."

Can you supply a certificate that would satisfy them? 
I certainly wouldn't want MAF to open them to "inspect" them.

I, and others have bought hops in from Aus and USA, if they are vacuum sealed, its pretty obvious they are in pellets.

I had a pierced bag once, but hard to tell if it was customs or some other accident.

accidentally picked cone hops from Aus once, and they made it through....

I send hop pellet packages every day to Australia and they get through their Australian Quarantine Inspection Service (AQIS) without documentation - besides stating what they are on the custom form. And they are very rigorous when it comes to sending plant material. 

Whole leaf is generally not allowed in most countries (and I'm not selling whole leaf... ever). 

I can supplement a document, but it costs $25 dollars per time and all they do at our Agriculture administration is sign a document (they don't even look at the hops!). They don't need it in Australia.

This is a common problem NZers have, but we're not actually Australians :)

haha,  I watch Flight of the Conchords - I know a little about NZers :0

Can I have the link to the text reference.

I interpret the above text as -
I can produce a document and ship it with the hops stating
the contents and the process they were made since
we are the manufacturer ( we pelletize in our cold storage warehouse).

Or I can send the hops and they will just check the contents,
make a determination, and then they will send it after they determine they are hop pellets.

All my hops are Vacuum packed and state what they contain on each individual package.

I also sell and  ship  5kg and 10kg mylar foil bags.

My interpretation is the same as yours. I believe that you (as manufacturer) could provide your own certificate.

Without a certificate, I think that a transparent bag would be fine as they can "inspect" it without opening it. I suspect that if it was a mylar bag they might want to open it.

Perfect.

All my my one pound hops (454g) bags are  transparent with labels on them.
And I can ship up to  3 pounds for $17.

I have had some large demand in other countries, soo  I thought I would try NZ.

We actually import some  NZ hops and they are gaining some momentum in the states, particularly Nelson Sauvin.

Yes. Our  2012 Crop will be picked in September and I will have a lot more varieties for sale then listed.

I'll make the rounds and post updates when they are picked and ready to sell.

I have just come back from the UK with a 5kg bag of American cascade pellets. I had with me the email I had from MAF, the invoice for the hops, and a specification for "T90 hop pellets". MAF were happy despite the hops being in a opaque bag. The lady did say that regulations change from time to time so its always best to check with them before bringing any in.
