Looking for recommendations for NZ equivalent to Doombar

Hi,
We've recently moved to NZ from the UK. My partner is a big ale drinker - the kind of dark ale with little to no fizz that's hand pulled like London Pride or Doombar. Everything here is labelled 'ale' but completely different and far too fizzy.

Can anyone recommend a NZ equivalent that he could try?
Thanks

Where do you live Lizzy, if you are in one of the main cities we will most likely be able to steer you to a few decent pubs with hand pulls. Failing that we can certainly provide the knowledge to start you brewing your own real ale ;). If you are after bottled product, offerings such as Emersons Bookbider or London Porter are available most places, or Townsends have a good selection of English-style ales. Can beat fresh though so let us steer you to a good pub

Thanks Nicholas,

We're based in Auckland.

It depends where you are in NZ.

Draught -

Auckland: Galbraith's

Wellington: too many options to mention.

Christchurch: Twisted Hop, Cassels, Pomeroy's.

Marlborough Sounds: I've just put a smoked porter on handpull :)

Bottled -

Townshend's Sutton Hoo.

Renaissance Stonecutter Scotch Ale.

Emerson's Bookbinder.

Our pleasure Lizzy, as Kevin mentioned, Galbraiths on Mt Eden rd should be your first port of call for a proper English style pint. Vultures Lane on Vulcan lane also has a good selection. Brothers beer, Lumsden Free house, Sky sports grill, Brew on Quay and Hallertau Brewery should keep you busy for the next few weekends ;). Im sure a few others will chime in with more options too. Happy exploring, there is some fun to be had
