On Thursday 2nd July (assuming the beer gets here on time!) we will be hosting a pretty special event. Luke has got his hands on a mini keg of Epic Halcyon that he brewed at Thornbridge with Kelly Ryan. Along with sampling this, we will have a pre-release tasting of Epic Armageddon and Hallertau's Maximus Humulus Lupulus. Both Luke and Steve Plowman will be around to talk through their beers.

Availability to this awesome tasting is limited to 20 places... in fact, there are only 6 left!

Where: Malthouse
When: 6pm sharp, 2nd July (TBC)
$?: $25 in advance

If you wish to book a space please email me at events@themalthouse.co.nz Sorry to keep this so tight, but both space and beer are limited, so first come first served.

Cheers

Lucky man - I'll see you there.
Yay! Awesome event, thanks to Luke and Colin! Oysters too (though made me want to drink a stout). Pics at http://www.flickr.com/glynnfoster. Not being on 3G sucks for live updates! Yes, the beers were great. Warmed up on Tuatara Pale Ale, then had an Epic Pale Ale for comparison through the tasting. Will be interesting to see the evolution of introduction of MO in Epic - think it adds something special, says pasty Irish white boy. Halltertau tops the pre-west coast challenge tasting. Game on!
I should say, the Hallertau beer has had a week or two more than the Epic one - http://epicbeer.com/blog/labels/ipa.html. Plenty of time for those beers to mature. Mmmm. Too bad I'll be in the US for the event :(

Luke needs to explain "Pete" and " Melissa" coz I think its a great idea and people need to know! Each of the beers in tonights tasting were awesome. I feel priviledged to get to try em! Get in to the malthouse quick and you might get a sneak preview of this this years armageddon.
Colin - don't know how these mini kegs work but you can put it through my beer engine if it helps. then i can take it home in the taxi and see-saw the dregs out at home ;-)

Tap Badge for Thornbridge Epic Halcyon
and so it continues.... oooh is that an oak cask I see?
WHAAAAT?!?!!?
Was hoping that Kempicus was going to accidentally pack those firkins for us.... no such luck :(
So what was the Halcyon like??
The beer wasn't in the best condition, and finings didn't work possible due to the long journey and temperature fluctuation through Dubai, Thailand and Singapore.

Also for me it wasn't an ideal situation (presenting to a group of 20 people) to be able to make any formal notes. But over all the beer was pretty awesome, great bitterness, and balance, with good hop flavour. Wish I had been able to try it in optimum condition in the UK from the cask.
Summed up perfectly well. Though Luke's probably a bit modest and his own harshest critic... It was delicious!
