Copper Pipe for Immersion Chillers
This is really good value if you are making an immersion chiller, $59 plus posatge for a 15m roll of the copper pipe you will need. This trademe seller (brass123) has them on a regular basis, just click on his TM name for his current auctions. (Normally $59 fixed price, however I see that on this particular auction someone has bid that amount as an auction bid, the fixed price is therefore no longer available, but he will likely have more auctions coming up.) What diameter is good for an immersion chiller, I see this guys currently has 7.9 OD, I guess that is 7.9 mm, that seems a bit skinny and you wouldn't be able to get a lot of water through that.

Yes, the half inch/12.7mm seem sto be the one most often recommended for an immersion chiller, he has other sizes normally if you ask him (I got a 9.5mm length (not for an immersion chiller but for some other bling) from him recently when he was only advertising the 12.7mm size, I think his company uses a lot of this stuff in varying sizes and he clears out the stock at the end of the month on TM)

I use 1/2"/12.7mm OD, but the other common size is 3/8"/9.5mm.
Apparently there's not much difference between the two sizes, I think the length of the coil makes the biggest difference, try and use the whole coil if you can.

if its the same guy i bought from then he also does free postage for 2 coils if a couple of you need them, i use a full coil length and it chills the wort from boiling to +- 25oC in about 15 mins. mine is 12.7 od also, heat pump copper or refridgerant copper i think.

I got my copper of trademe for this price, works great, cools my beer from boiling to around 24 degree's in around 15 minutes.
I used my mates pipe bender for the ends and coiled it around an old metal pot to make it smaller for the keg. then wrapped copper wire around all the coils to keep them together..........makes it easier to lift in and out the keg.

This looks great.
Would the 12.7 mm size be suitable for a mash extracter with holes cut in the top with a hacksaw do you think? Or is it too narrow for wort extraction?

you need to either flare the copper or add a sleeve of 15mm od copper, IIRC.

Has anyone seen activity from brass123 this year? I have emailed with no response. Any other cheap sources? Even plumber buddy is looking at 100+ for 10mm. Seems pricy.

Update (3.5 years after initial post) -
Just brought a 15m roll of 12.7mm direct from 'brassman' via his email address.
$65 + $15 postage. (still the best price I've been able to find)
