Anyone done this?

I will steep say 25g green bullet hops in a coffee percolator for about 5 mins and boil, then throw this into the fermenter (been down 7 days now).  Trying to add some punch to a all grain pale ale : )

Any advantage over just dry hopping?

I have done this as just before I have pitched yeast but not as a dry hop, listen to this on beer smith, the recommendation is to dry hop after you secondary for about 3 days,  possible; to dry hop 2 different hops this way day 1-3 then 4-6...

guy seems to know his stuff interesting the amount they use to dry hop etc and hi spreference for really late addition hops at end of boil,   but also interesting not to over complicate things , he talks using nz hops all good

most interesting is how they stored this in barrels for 1 year, yes 1 YEAR, before shipment back in the day.....

Was kegging up a beer the other day which on brew day my gas ran out about 40 mins into the boil, so I threw in the aroma and flavour hops in a rush hoping they'd still extract. When I was transferring into the keg I had a taste, as you do, and decided it could definitely be hoppier. So I sanitised the coffee plunger, poured about 500ml of wort into it along with 100g of Riwaka. Let it percolate for about an hour, pushed down the plunger and topped up the last bit of the keg with it. It's definitely imparted a fresher hop flavour and made for a good option in the case of 'emergency dry hop'. Only problem was it caused a bit of cloudiness. Which isn't a worry to me but when you're sharing your beers people definitely notice a cloudy beer.

do the commercial craft guys use a filter after whirlpool before fermentation in NZ?

he talks about this in the podcast,  so many hops so little time.

Did 30g green bullet in coffee percolator, boiled for about 1-2 mins then tossed in 1/2 hour prior to bottling with brew sugar for that good fizz.  The beer (a pale ale) was really great and has a nice hoppy finish and aroma too, also very drinkable a even few days after bottling.  No cloud, and minimal sediment. Will try this final step again with more hops : )
