Hey everyone,

I have been in contact with Gary Clarke, the owner of Southern Cross and Estadio bars and we have been discussing the possibility of setting a home brewing club that would be based at Estadio in one of their private bar rooms upstairs.

Basically his idea is to create a community of avid home brewers who can use the space as a kind of club room, where we can meet and share ideas and beers. But the biggest opportunity he is offering to home brewers is a monthly competition with a panel of judges who will taste the group’s offerings and the winner will have the chance to brew on the Estadio in house 500litre brewery. The produced beer will then be sold on tap at Estadio, Southern Cross and perhaps another bar.

This is an amazing opportunity for small scale home brewers to have their beers produced and sold on a commercial scale so I am just gathering interest for the idea at present.

Gary has been talking to DB, with whom his bars are affiliated with, and they are very keen to get behind the idea as an attempt to support grassroots homebrewing, although I am told their involvement will be minimal and the beer produced will be in no way affiliated with the DB brand.

Get back to me and let me know what you think.

Thanks,

Dylan Shearer

Sounds brilliant! bloody good idea
Makes me wish I lived in Wellington. Nah, only kidding ;-)
Sounds like a great idea. Seeing a brew in action, or even having a look at the brewery would be neat as-well
Sounds cool let us know how you get on!
I'm very keen on that, more just to meet other homebrewers and share ideas :)
I will be keen.
Any updates on this?
I just checked the Estadio website and it says they closed their doors for the final time on June 30.  I can only assume this is bad news...  Southern Cross has a private room though...
It's beer time Dylan
