A pretty hard out half day spent today cutting holes in my control panel. It's now ready to paint.

I still have a few bits and pieces to arrive but have enough to be comfortable hacking through steel safe in the knowledge I've measured thrice.

I used a jigsaw and did a lot of filing for all the rectangular holes, every single round hole was accomplished with chassis punches. Thus they are clean as a whistle, so satisfying.

Photos are of the stress test – making sure everything fits in this very tight space. Success!

Front – missing is the Auber JSL-73B timer (coming)

Bottom – missing are the chassis mounts for the Auber probes (coming)

Top – heatsink in place.

I've cleaned up around the cable hatch (isn't quite covered by the heatsink) with JB Weld, once that's set I"ll sand the whole thing down and prime and paint.

By the time that's done the timer and probes will have arrived and I'll be wiring. Exciting.

Cheers!

Where did you get the box from and how much?

My dad sourced it for me from one of his electrical wholesalers. Not sure which one but probably Corys.
He hasn't given me a bill yet but it was about $100 + gst, he would've gotten a sharp price though.
I'd recommend anyone else get a slightly bigger one, 300x300x150 is tight as.

Yeah. Gonna try find a 400x400x200.
But it needs to be cheap. Real cheap lol.

Yeah they aren't cheap at all for a simple steel box.
Check out those industrial salvage places, you never know your luck.

Hey Barry, looks good. What are the black socket outlets on the side/rating? And where did you get them?

30A Nema twist lock sockets. These ones. Got these plugs to match.

Hi Barry, any chance you remember the diameter of the holes for the pump sockets, waiting on the delivery and thats the last couple of holes for me to put in the enclosure. It mentions 38mm but not sure if thats the face plate dia or the cutout size. Cheers

From memory I used a 32mm hole saw, then filed it out slightly larger. I just measured and the hole is definitely smaller than 38mm, that must be the faceplate size. There's 3 little notches you have to file out slightly too so it fits nice.
