That's a pretty tidy looking mash tun! Mine has a plastic buteline array which works but isn't ideal. What sort of tools did you need to put this beastie together?

Hi RJ, I haven't actually mashed with it yet, but I have drained the chilly bin of water using it and it leaves only a few mm in the bottom so hopefully it will work ok. It was easy to build and you could make one without brazing the "siphon" on the top as I have but replacing the elbow with a "T" and an elbow fitted together as below. Basically I just assembled all the "T"s and elbows you can see with short bits of pipe between to make it the right width, making sure all the joints were pushed well "home". then taped it together to stop it from falling to bits while being handled, lay it on a flat surface and put one light "ding" in each joint with a dot punch (you can see them in the pic). This seems to be enough to hold it stiff, and seems to be well enough sealed that it still siphons right out. Once it was together I just cut slots in the bottom side with a super fine cutting disk on an angle grinder about 10mm apart, although slower a hacksaw would do just as well for this. So all you would need to build one like this would be a hacksaw, dot punch and hammer.

hope this helps

cheers

Scottie
