Just got a nice ss fermenter for the garage all grain brewery, but it needs a tap.

What fitting is this?  It is approx. 4.5cm diameter (from thread to thread).

Also where can I source a tap to fit?

Many thanks : )

Looks like an RJT sanitary fitting to me maybe one inch? - heres a pic of the parts involved in an RJT coupling

Let me know if you need help fitting a valve.

Cheers Chris, that maybe helpful : )  I will probably bottle from this fitting.  Best guess for adapter, tap required?  I see Anzor has some RJT fittings.  But I also need a tap with some type of bottle control, like my current plastic coopers kit.

Have a look at these guys as they may be useful.

Here's how I would do it.

Buy a 1" butterfly valve with nut on one end and male fitting on other.

Buy a 1" CIP blank (and nut) drill a hole in it and and get a 1'2" BSP socket welded into the middle of the blank.

From the 1'2" socket screw in a 90deg Hansen fitting and attach bottle filling tube to it.

Done.

Im assuming we are talking about the racking port if not ignore my ramblings below

Heres a pic of the parts layed out the way I would do it using simple/cheaper parts still requires some welding/machining though.

My personal preference would be to eliminate all threads (pipe threads ahh my pet hate esp in fermnters!) bar the RJT and use a 3pc valve or butterfly and add a racking tube and camlocked bottling tube..... might sound a bit ott but thats how I roll!

Thanks guys, some great advice.

Chris were can  source those parts?

Cheers.

While it would be nice to use all RJT to be hygenic looking at this price list I would want to be getting back to cheap threaded fittings ASAP. ~$165 for a 1" RJT butterfly valve, ouch!

Chris way seems good, I would probably just go straight to a hosetail out of the valve with some tube with a bottling wand attached.

yeah agree.  You really have to know where to go / how to improvise, or this can cost too much for a hobbyist.  Half the fun is figuring out how to do this for a song. I certainly don't have DB's annual equipment budget, but I wish : )

PS

the info and contributions from fellow craft brewers / members here is just great to help achieve the above.  Thanks again all.

Yeah real sanitary valves just aint for the faint hearted!

If you just want the parts Anzor has most.

Mattd2's idea of going to a hose tail out of the valve simplifys it even further.

Not that I encourage shameless self promotion but .. If you need anything of the parts or welding machining this place in Wellington might be able to fix you up B.B.H .

Thanks Chris. No problem. Nice site and gear, I have emailed you.
