I did a wet hop smash beer in the weekend with Nelson Sauvin and pilsner grain. 90 min boil I added 25g nel sav pellets and at 75mins 90g wet and 5 min 120g leaving to steep for 10 mins at end of boil. I think I have under hopped a fair bit. I have heard any where from 6 times the recipe to 3 times. Anyone got any feedback on this. I still have a 120g wet addition for dry hopping. This is a blonde ale with US05 not going to be lagered.

You've obviousely also entered the allgrain/brewtopia competition!
My hop additions were -
20g Pacific Jade (pellets) @ 45mins
100g Nelson Sauv (fresh hops) @ 15mins
100g NS @ 10mins
100g NS @ 5mins and then
600g NS 10mins after I turned the heat off and whirlpooled/steeped for 60+mins as I cooled it down to ~18'C

Didn't know about that comp Matthew just got caught up in the wet hop fever. Although I wish I had more than 120g left for a dry hop looking at your late addition.

How are you storing your remaining 120g of hops? I'm on the understanding that fresh hops turn to compost pretty fast (within a few days) even when chilled?

I also read that if you're freezing them, whatever you do you don't want to defrost them as they turn into slushy cabbage. I guess you're best just to throw them in still frozen?

One last comment - it's pretty crazy how fast the weight reduces with fresh hops. I was sent 1 kg of hops but this reduced to 900g within 24hrs.

I have had the remaining wet hops in a zip lock bag in the fridge. From what I am hearing from you, best to biff them and not ruin the beer. Fair comment? My smash is still bubbling away today, wont be ready for a dry hop til at least thursday judging by the activity.

Bin them.

Cheers in the bin they go

I heard the same mark about 5-6 times dry hops, best to use them at the end as a steep/whirlpool.
