Hi guys,

Hoping someone can tell me that this is ok.

I started fermenting an APA 5 days ago with Wyeast American 2.

Primary fermentation kicked off within 6 hours of pitching and temp was around 18C and has been maintained the whole time. The gravity has been dropping and activity is still very active.

This afternoon I noticed this film of gunk on top in 2 places on top of the krausen. It looks like quite a thick film and I can see it on the side of the carboy hanging down a few cm.

I've seen similar before in previous batches and presume it is break material from the wort, however I haven't seen it formed quite like this before and wondered if I have an infection or mould.

Just so you know, there was a fair amount of break material that went into the fermenter so hopefully it's just that, but wanted to check just in case.

Nothing to worry about. Just nice healthy yeast hanging out on top. Your right, some of the darkest patches might be a mix of break material, hop matter etc.

Thanks for putting my mind at ease Matt!
