Home Made Stir Plate
I thought to post my idea for a simplified home made stir plate, since seeing one or two threads on the general subject here. There might be someone out there contemplating a stir plate but like me, finds it a bit daunting.

This stir plate I made a few years ago as an alternative to some seemingly very complex designs I had come across on another forum. Now I'm definately not an electronics whizz so if I can build this, anyone can. Scroll down to the posts with photos and check it out, its very simple, cheap and can be put together quickly. In fact there's absolutely nothing hard about it at all. This gadget goes hand in hand with my simple little frozen yeast bank and has not only saved quite a bit of money on Wyeast costs but made several different yeast strains available at any time, rather than having to wait on Wyeast deliveries or having to manage brew days to suit available yeast.

Yeh i made one the other day too out of old computer parts and a variable fan speed controller. Just need a sheet of perspex and it will be good to go.
I am just looking for a good deal on 1/2 G bottles on trademe to use as bottles to grow the yeast.

saw your post about that. Have you reied a 1/2 G yet ? It will need to have a flat bottom.

No, I was too busy doing other stuff over the weekend to get around to buying any. I have some on my trademe watchlist that are coming up in the next few days so hopefully will have some soon.

i just scored an old semi industrial looking stirplate after finding that flasks were $50+ i thort about using one of those "sistema" containers, there are round ones with flat bottoms and they seal. but i found a large round glass jar that holds 1.5l im trialing it with some champagne yeast i had in the fridge; seems to be working well

hi , i use a $4 lunch box to mount my fan in cheep gives you flat top and water proof
