BIAB brew three tomorrow... who's advise should i follow?

My Third BIAB tomorrow.

 

Interesting dilemma....Follows....,

1) Biab instructions from BIABrewer... very respected BIAB site. From my researching its the best.

 

2)Local knowledge from a home brew shop...? Now I respect the advise from the home brew shop. Have found that person to be very knowledgeable...

 

So I do my first batch following BIAB... before I spoke with the home brew shop. Could not believe the water volume needed first off.. like 48l to end up with 22.5l in the bottles.... na cant be.

 

So off I go and I got reasonably close to the right volume at the end... and I was toasted at the end. Wort looks real dark...hmmm something not right here.... last night bottled it after sitting for 2 week at 18deg and colour is normal...? . Smell was awesome.. cant remember SG. tasted like no beer I have ever drunk... hops mad I am thinking (to be honest I have NO idea about hops... I drink Lion Red.). well lets wait and see... boil 90min... fact is measured nothing just brewed...

 

So off to home brew shop thinking... wort real dark... so after a chat.. ... next brew... 10l sparge, 23l mash volume, 70% cover on pot, top up to 23L with boiled water after cooling.... this is brew two... and again real toasted at the end... don't remember FA of the last 1hr but the stereo was cranked in the garage and a beer being drunk with the neighbor. cool. In the morning all was good... bubble bubble.. wife OK.. Still fermenting looks good. 23l in to fermenter perfect cause of top up with boiled water... I like this method, 60min boil less heat to keep the boil going... faster..

 

BUT which one will be the best... cant test... time for brew three..

last two are with the same recipies... next is Nelson Sauvin Summer Ale by Ross.

 

So this week its another brew... biab 1 in the bottle... biab 2 in fermented.

So I have not tasted either...

SO what advise do I follow for batch 2...............?

wondering why the red bucket?

Am i going to pour the wort back in to the pot?

Yes the bucket is sitting on an grill rack..

 

Answer... the red bucket has no bottom... directs the wort flow back in to the pot. Something learned after brew 1.

Hence the focus on the red pot

The answer has to be in the tasting. However, most BIAB and full mash systems only boil for 60 to 90 min so im doubtfull of the biabrewer advice to boil for a long time to reduce your water volume????? I would go with the Brewshop advice!

yep thats what i am thinking.... i look forward to tasting the brews...
