Hi folks,

Although I'm hoping to get myself sorted out with a converted chilly bin and go at least partial-mash for the next brew, I suspect I may end up doing a beer with whatever I have in the cupboard!. So I thought I'd do a bit of a stocktake and see if anyone could suggest something.

This is what I currently have in the cupboard/fridge:
0.5kg Vienna malt
0.5kg Munich malt
0.5kg Crystal malt (120L)
0.5kg Light DME
1 can John Bull Pilsner kit
10g (or so) NZ Hallertau
50g Motueka
20g Galena
10g East Kent Goldings

My current brew is an Alt so I need to do something slightly different. Whatever it is will probably need to be extract plus steeped grain. I expect I will need to buy some other bits (some yeast for one thing!) but I'm trying to save the pennies at the moment.

Any thoughts?

Martin

Well it all looks good I'd say !

Just depends how much you can mash at one time.
Can you manage a 1kg mash - mash the munich and vienna, boil with the light dme for 15 mins and a (yet to be) calculated amount of hops - which when added to the tin of JB Pils - will give you a balance for your taste.

I'd go for the Motueka personally.

A kg of stovetop mash grains & 500gm DME wit ha kit should give a reasonable gravity - adjust final volume up or down to suit

ferment with your favourite dried lager yeast
