Event Description

Nøgne Ø from Norway, Mikkeller from Denmark and de Molen from the Netherlands represent the new wave of European brewing - borrowing the attitude and adventurousness of "new world" brewing and using it to rejuvenate the art and craft of brewing in Europe.

Beer Without Borders imports the beer of all three to New Zealand and we have some pretty spectacular stock arriving before this tasting takes place in March. Expect variety, innovation and some massive imperial stouts.

This tasting takes place at 6pm on March 20, at Vulture's Lane in Vulcan Lane. Places are limited.

Fantastic. De Molen is my favorite brewery. Do I need to make reservations, are there tickets, or is it just show up and snag a seat?

John, there's a link up there that takes you to a web store where you can book & pay. There are no physical tickets, just names taken.

Sweet. I missed that. Thanks. Question... What exatcly takes place at an event like this? Are the brewers there? Is it special stock that I wouldn't currently find at HashigoZake or other similar store? Or is it just a tasting. I would be making quite a drive to Auckland and am just trying to understand what the even involves. Thanks.

John,

We're drawing on stock imported by Beer Without Borders. Hashigo Zake may well have most or all of these available, although it would cost you a lot more than $35 to buy a bottle of every one of them to try.

On the evening we'll serve around 150mls each of seven or eight beers, with a new beer every 15-20 mins. We try to create a menu with a nice transition from moderate alcohol beers through to some show-stopping finishers, with some interesting diversions along the way, and at the same time do justice to the three different breweries.

It would be nice to have the brewers, and we have had Kjetil from Nøgne Ø here before, but it will be a big effort to get someone from one of the breweries out here for a single event.

The format is informal. We'll try to provide useful introductory info on each brewery and gather feedback. The idea is to create the best possible set of circumstances under which you could try these beers.

I hope this helps.

Dominic
