Regional Beer Options

Beer Options is the annual end to the Regional Wines & Spirits tasting programme.Beer Options is our grand finale where attendees through the year can show their prowess at tasting and demonstrate how much they have learned (or not!). This year we welcome back Emerson’s Brewing Company as overall sponsor with the Emerson’s Trophy up for grabs. Based on the ever popular wine options game, we have teams of 3-6 beer lovers test their palates and knowledge in competing for the Emerson’s Cup, the Gisborne Gold Award for the best name, and excellent prizes, some of which have been kindly donated by our friends at Hashigo Zake, ofcourse the real prize is the fame and glory that inevitably comes with victory! In recent years amateur enthusiasts have reigned supreme however corporate and professional teams have succeeded in the past.

The format is as follows: Beer expert and judge Geoff Griggs along with Regional Beer Specialist Kieran Haslett-Moore will serve up a number of brews ‘blind’ (identity hidden) and multi-choice questions are asked as to the brews’ style, origin and make up. The beers can come from any country and be of any type. The team that answers the most questions correctly wins. It’s not all serious and difficult, as Geoff and Kieran give plenty of clues (and the occasional red herring), and there’s lots of learning and plenty of laughs along the way. As well as the major prizes, there will be a number of spot prizes, so many people will go home with at least something! Try to book as a team, or just come along for the night and we can place you in a team.
