What gives Yakima it's colour? It almost looks red.

That batch in particular had Koelsch malt as the base. The batch Kempicus had was Golden Promise... but I feel, (although extremely tasty) it lacked a bit of malt depth. In the end - I think the GP version was fine as it was: the hops came through really strong. With the Koelsch malt - there was so much extra flavour that the hops took a little bit of a backseat on the palate, which is fine if thats what you are after in a beer... but the Monster is supposed to be about one thing... Which is a bit of a juxtoposition from the original statement: "the batch in question lacked a bit of malt depth".

Anyway - the photo looks darker than it actually was! The Stein is pretty big... and the beer was about the same colour as Epic.
