So looking back it looks like the last time a get together was organise was about a year ago. I was thinking about New Year's resolutions today and thought I should really get out there and met some other brewer.

I was also thinking that if it was to be a more regular, standard, occurance it would be nice to not have to organise where the next one will be held, etc. so what about meeting up at Brewers Bar for a couple of beers and talk some crap.

Was also thinking about starting up that case swap, my thoughts were if we brought XX amount of bottles to the monthly meeting (if you have anything you want to share/get feedback on) we can divide them up during the meeting, drink at home and then give feedback on here or at the next meeting.

So what are your guys thoughts? I'm slaughter at work until next year so maybe the first or second week of 2013 - Thursday night? or would everyone prefer a weekend night?

Cheers guys!

Cheers Matt, good to get some feedback.  I drink long blacks as my coffee of choice, so I like a decent coffee hit!  Haven't tried your porters yet.  In response to your queries, in a 24l batch I added 50ml of vanilla paste 5min before FO.  When I came to bottle, I split the batch 50/50.  For the vanilla porter, I added 3 more teaspoons of vanilla paste to the priming sugar, boiled 5 min and added to the bottling bucket.  For the coffee, I ground up 100gr of very dark roast coffee and steeped in 1L of water in the fridge for 24hours before bottling.  I then strained via a paper coffee filter and added the coffee direct to the bottling bucket with my priming sugar.

That is kind of what my first thoughts were - This would be a coffee lovers beer. Nice strong coffee aroma and taste.

Yeah I have never done any other additions to my beers yet so was interested in the process. On the cards in a while might be a chili porter so got to learn how.

Cheers.

I did a bit of research on adding chilis for a ginger beer I did last year.  Some people reckoned that you can get a vege / capsicum taste by adding the whole chili, but just adding the seeds gives heat without that added flavour.  Seemed to work for me - added seeds from 3 chilis and there was certainly some heat there!  Each to their own re: flavours, but that was my experience if its of any use.

Hey guys,

Just got a message from AJ over on HBT. Grabone has a deal on a taster paddle for the newly opened Mt Brewing Co. (on 109 Maunganui Rd (?) about halfway through the shops I think)

5 beer + 1 cider tasters and a flatbread for $10

I think we should check this out for the next meet up, looks like they have the line-up of the new brewers/BOP brewery beers and some other crafts.

I'm going to grab the max of 2 (One for me and one for a mate).

Might be a good option for the next meet up?

I guesse I should set the day for next time while I'm at it - as always first Thursday of the month - 02/05/13.

Cheers!

Hey Matt, I grabbed one of those vouchers.  Also, tried your brown porter which was a nice drop!  Good clarity & malt flavour, with good carbonation.  Would happily pay for a pint!

Sweet got mine too. Thanks for the feedback, hat's given me more confidence in it now for the case swap. I bottled up the rest of it the other night and it looks like I had been sampling it too much as I only just got enough bottles!
Cheers!

Sweet as, another month down.

Hope to see some of you guys at Mount Brewing Co. 109 Maunganui Rd this Thursday 02/05/13 @ 8pm.

Cheers,

Matt

see you there!

Hey Gary, tried the Blonde with the inlaws over the weekend. Got a very nice pineapple aroma and the ballance was good. The inlaws comment was they could drink quite a few on a nice sunny day. As you say I would happily pay for a pint!

Cheers!

Cheers for the feedback Matt.  I have a crate sitting in the fridge to see if it will clear a bit more as the first one I drank had poor clarity (tasted nice though!).  Brew day this Sunday, my second crack at a kiwi pale ale...

Hey guys, damn June snuck up on me! Anyone still keen for a beer on Thursday at Mount Brewing Co. (109 Maunganui Rd). Usual time 8pm.

Cheers,

Matt

Hi Matt, i'll be there, haven't checked out the new MBC yet.

Cheers

Noel
