That ever classy rag, the NZ Herald is at it yet again.

Note the picture?

There was also this:

to which I submitted the following comment, though it's not shown up on their site. Here it is, in case it doesn't:

Oh dear. Mark, really? "Beer, wherever you are in the world is essentially the same"? How many of the huge number of recognised beer styles (http://www.bjcp.org/2008styles/catdex.php) have you tasted? Or do you just stick to the ones who have to use slick branding to differentiate themselves? If the latter, I agree with you, and this is why organisations like SOBA (http://www.soba.org.nz) exist. We want to wake people up and get them back to tasting *real* beer, not just the undifferentiated output of massive steel tanks in identical giant breweries, sold only by the efforts of creative marketing people whom they can afford to pay well. Real beer is at least as diverse as wine, whisky, or any other celebrated beverage throughout history. The problem is, between the boring, but cheap-to-produce bland lagers, and the marketing might used to convince people they are different, most people seem to have forgotten that fact. Get out there, drink some craft beer, and celebrate
that!

Cheers,

Yeah, I spotted the first one. Didn't spot the second one though, but what do you expect from an advertising guy?
More than that. :)
anyone got a scan of the DB ad from the weekend congratulating their 4 breweries for winning the Champion Brewery award?
On the flipside, great to see a new brewer getting some press and profile in the very same rag:

Yeah, if only they'd up their standards overall, it'd be great. There was an excellent (if a bit dumbed down) feature on Hallertau recently too.
