Well, nothing went "wrong", I just thought I'd better not drive. But yeah, I know what you mean, and it's probably a good rule.
I have a variant. Nowt until the wort is in the kettle, then no more than two. ;) It helps that I usually start brewing between 6 and 7am on a Saturday or Sunday. That said, I had a shocker of a brewday yesterday, right when The Devil was summoned to the brewery to observe and comment too. Most embarrassing. Remind me to tell you about my new ESB recipe and its secret ingredient...

Jeez, I admire you'r guys dedication. You can usually find me supping away while I'm brewing. I figure if it's going to go wrong, I might as well be enjoying myself while it does. Did a NZ pale ale yesterday, using NZ fuggles throughout.

 

Nup - unless I am brewing in the morning I always start drinking at mash-in. It helps pass the time. That and good music on the ipod, Radiohead features prominently.

Myself, I'm a true believer in the idea of "it takes beer to make beer."

 

It's a rare brew when I don't have one or two during the process.
