At least you have some beer again Martin.
As for the mesh - no idea personally - but hopefully someone will read this and pipe up with a useful suggestion or two.

Mill's available when you need it

cheers, jt

Did my bottle arrive safe and sound? Let me know what you think

No problem, thank you. I use wheetbix for head retention. The sweatness comes from the extra crystal and maybe from the caraaroma too. After trying a few British ESB's (Youngs, Fuller's), I found that there was a tendency toward a sweater palate. I don't use sugar in my beer, except to carbonate, in the bottle.

Glad you enjoyed it, it wasn't too flat? I poured it from the keg, at a rather warm temp.

Hi mate,

hows the brewing going? I'll be in Wellington, 18-21 November (I don't know if you were copied on the email, I sent to the group?). If you wanted to catch up for a beer?

What Are you brewing? Any help with the yeast?

I have just used a starter from my West Yorkshire ale, that I had stored in the fridge, since earlier in the year. I was most impressed at how it got back up. It is now bubbling madly in my ESB. It's a Tim Taylor yeast (Landlord fame), and has some really excellent nutty, toasty characteristics.

Take care

Tony

You shouldn't need to buy new fermenters. If it is bad, make up a solution of idophor or chlorine and soak in that for a while. I use chlorine occasionally, I know it's not the most environmentally friendly, but I tip the waste on my weeds. But it will kill anything. Just make sure use rinse it through with boiling water afterward. I usually make up some in the fermenter and soak everything in it: my lines, sieve, airlocks, bungs, anything that comes into contact with the yeast. I have started using Starsan too. I have made up a solution in a spray bottle, and spray the tap and up the fermenter outlet, prior to pouring the beer through. Which reminds me, when you pour your sanitation solution, pour it through the tap. It is a likely source of bugs.

I am having a beer at Malthouse, Wednesday 18th from 6.

Cool Dan, fair enough, that's news to me too. Shame for your beer. I use gas rings too, I have never used electric, but I could only imagine the power usage.

Oops, sorry Martin ;0. (moment of slight embarrassment). Yeah, I know a few guys on electric, But I prefer to cook on gas as it's far more efficient, so it must be the same for brewing?
