Hey, cheers! Yeh, I love that new Byrne/Eno album. I've been a bit of a country/folk fan for years but the "pop" end of both of those genres make me a little scared to admit it. It's like saying you like Mild - hell, I love mild!!!
It was nice to get a free plug to the Yeastie Boys. So much other stuff I could have said. I definitely thought I'd remember to plug SOBA. I'm not going to listen to the archive. I made the mistake of watching myself on TV earlier in the year. Was like watching a stunned rabbit in headlights (wearing an old t-shirt too!).
Hi there... r.e. beer swap... I've sent plastic bottles with NZ couriers (pre paid bags) no hassles. I have a couple of 1.125L bottles left - I'll send you 1 if you are keen. Just email me your address, and I'll send you mine: jo.wood@xnet.co.nz
Hi there - yeah mate I'm always keen! I can see the hospital from my place too. If they are around on the 24th, I'll be around and can meet up to trade no probs. I have available the following: Blonde Ale 5.5%, Special Bitter 5.1%, IPA 7.8% 90IBU, and a nice Hefe 4.7% - nice banana. Take your pick, and I'll spare a 500ml bottle for ya!
Oh, yeh... I was thinking Renaissance. It's a good pic, I like it. About to crack your mild... just making some dinner, so it'll see me through until I sit down.
Glad I inspired you mate :o) Im guessing you brew traditionally? If so it actually makes it way easier to caramelise, plus you get to sparge a little more so it helps with your efficiency if you do a full 5 litres!
Yeah - it definately appears that the majority of those photos are hop related! Those smoothcone hops ripped some decent wounds when I picked them! We ended up with 2 full 20 Liter bucketfuls of them... Showers hurt for the following few days.
Sorry I missed you. Funny you mention molasses... someone that I gave a bottle of Imperial PKB to was talking molasses to me last night. I've never actually tried it but I do have a tub of it at home (courtesy of Joking). How was the gig? Last time I ran to SFBH I waited 90 minutes for the band to come on. Yeasayer - they really rocked, so the wait was worth it.
I'm so big on drumming at the moment... sometimes I can't hear anything else. I really want to see The Decemberists, their drummer - John Moen - is really doing it for me. And Glenn Kotche seen him twice in the last year... phenomenal.
Hey - thanks for that mate! It's always a headswell to be compared to professional brewers aye! I'd like to get a headswell about it, but US hops are so much easier to get right than NZ ones... which would make the Renaissance one very impressive. I havent heard what hops Graham uses in the 666 IIPA, but if it's anything like his other beers - I'm sure it was fantastic.
Sure thing - I'll try and make sure that there is a pint left over if you like. I got a bit ahead of myself on it though, as it is tasting good now: a lot better than it did when I cracked it! Always the way I suppose.
Gidday mate - it was a great catch up. I'm stoked that you liked the Porter... It's funny how different beers fit different proples tastes. I don't think it was flawed - but as you say...it's definately lifeless. I'm glad you got home in one piece too - take care.
Mr F... I'm a bit tied up with these Case Swap beers... but your 2 are just around the corner. Before I commit though - could you please clarify again... That Stout - does my memory serve me correctly, and did you indeed use 500g of Vlack Malt in it? Or was I too drunk to be using a memory?
Can you lead me to your recip for it? I'd like to know what the strain is... I had no idea it was that strong! I'll leave it in the fridge for a fortnight to help with the fire.
Yup, I just toasted some malt (Pilsner actually) in the oven. Unfortunately I can't lay my hands on the exact link I used to look up the toasting times. I think it was 15-30 mins at 180 degrees. Just keep an eye on it and give it a slight stir from time to time. Hope it works out OK for you.

Just get your folks to bring up a swappa crate bottle - I'll swap back some IPA in one of those bottles too.
Cheers.
