Bottled first attempt and went again.Got 22 750 ml bottles, so not so bad in the end.

This brew   4.6 kg British pale ale malt,250 g Crystal, 100g Nelson sauvon with S-05 as always.. This time added 28litres of water and mashed for 1hr, 40min @ 68c.Then boiled for 60 mins with only 10g bitter and all of the rest in the last 15 mins including 25g at flame out.

Much more mellow boil with lid half on and got 24 lites in fermenter with 3 litre mark trub.Last brew I racked off after 2 weeks and she was pretty clear in the bottles and trub stuck like glue to the bottom. Happy man and second go much less stressful and FUN.

I have one can of Coopers dark ale left over and want to use it so a partial mash (steep grains) is lined up for next time.26 litres again as I have a 35 l kettle. Can any one help with the malt type and quantity I need for a half an hr steep before I add malt and which malts to get.Thanks.

Nice work, second time round always a little smoother eh.

What kind of beer are you aiming for with the coopers dark? Give a bit more direction with what you want to achieve and I'm sure plenty of people will be able to help you out.
