Using prehopped kits in place of LME in extract brewing?

Started this discussion. Last reply by Al Witham Nov 2, 2011. 37 Replies

Here in NZ kits are such Coopers Original series are cheaper than cans of plain unhopped LME. So I was wondering how cans such as the Coppers Lager would work out for extract brewing. I've read…Continue

Guinness Clone Mark 3

Same recipe as previously. The difference here was fermenting in my new Fermzilla fermenter. I had intended to do a pressure ferment but when I went to keg it, I discovered that there was no pressure in the Fermzilla – I had accidentally left the pressure release open! I did my first attempt at a …

Fining beer with gelatin

This is my process for using gelatin to help clear my beer: Beer should be chilled to between 0° and 5°C (so that if chill haze occurs the gelatin will help remove it) Clean and sanitise pyrex jug, temperature probe, long handle spoon Measure out 2/3 cup cold water (can be pre-boiled and cooled) in …

Does full volume mash affect maltiness and body of the beer ?

I came across a very interesting discussion on the effect of full volume mash on the fermentablity of the wort and resulting maltiness and body of the beer in BIAB brewing on HomeBrewTalk. My approach is to mash with about 2/3 of the water with 1/3 reserved for sparging. I have considered doing a full …

Some notes on my plum wine making for 2016 (learnings for next time) Fruit – picked approx 60kg of fruit – 4 times my harvest of 2012 (the last time I made plum wine). The tree was loaded this year. I picked the ripe plums between 5th and 12th Jan, that’s later than usual for …

Favorite Beers?
To be honest, there are not many beers that I don't like. I tend to gravitate towards hoppiness. I like a good APA such as Tuatara APA, Epic Pale Ale, etc. Hoppy IPAs like Hopwired. And there is something immensely satisfying about a nice creamy Guinness Draught (esp. when served from a good Guinness pub in Ireland).

Hi Aidan,

Yep, we try and meet up every 4-6 weeks or so to taste each others beers.  You're very welcome to come along, we tend to get a pretty good turn out.  The Crate swap is completely optional; those that want to swap brews bring along 750mL bottles (or similar) to swap in a one-for-one fashion.

Cheers - Dylan

Hey man, sorry I did pass through Nelson there without even thinking about dropping you a line! Was pretty hectic catching up with the Family etc. It is probably getting a little too late to plant and expect a huge yield of flowers this season, but if I could get you some when I'm next up at Christmas, you could always plant and let them establish for next season! Let me know. Cheers, Fraser
