Gotta agree with everything Sparky says, Roosters is a great place, just watch the opening hours, not open Sunday and open Saturday 2pm-7pm, not sure what the weekday hours are.
Best bar in Napier is Provedore on West Quay, superb beer selection.…
Seem to use Maris Otter religiously for all my ales. It's quite expensive though. Thinking of buying 500 Kg from Cryer Malt and onselling the surplus (reckon I could easily handle 150 Kg)!!
I regularly add boiled and cooled water to my brews as they tend to always be over the target gravity after the boil. I just add the required water to get the desired OG. Seems to not affect the beer judging on my NHC results. Oddly enough the rever…
Hey Rich, thanks for the offer and sorry I did not get back. Found that it became more and more difficult to get to a computer. Will have to catch up next time I am in your great city. Cheers, Dai
Would you be able to get a price for a couple of hydrometers if not too much trouble. A 0-12 brix, 9-21 brix, (or the approx equivalent in SG) and a 0-20 proof spirit hydrometer.
If it is worthwhile I'll partake in the order, if not Morebeer prices aren't too bad even with the exchange rate at present.
Not sure if you'll be checking this site, so I may well drop you a text also. Unfortunately it looks like I will be unable to meet up this week. My in-laws are visiting at the moment and I'm getting the hard word from the missus about being home in the evenings. I have got a couple of nights out next week, but that means that getting away in the evenings this week looks unlikely. Sorry mate, would have been good to catch up. I'm sure you'll be able to find one of the other local guys to catch up with.
Richie,
Monday morning and awaiting hot water to heat up so I can get on with
a filter run and some tank cleaning.....
The two beers I am trying to sort out are indeed the Old95 and the IPA. The main issue has been the yeast we are using, some issues with malt FAN on that yeast strain have not made for healthy ferments. There are other issues we have identified with bottling these two beers as well which complicate the situation too.
Here's what I'd like to do - We are changing the yeasts on these two beers and with the current hop supply situation also the hop recipes.
I'd like to send you samples of both new recipes for your feedback and comment - A mixed case each time we tweak over the coming weeks - would you be happy to give feedback via email (prefer not the forum LOL) until we are happy with results?
Richee
I don't normally get to see ths as its Richard's username etc. Just popped in on a cold wet saturday - kids waiitng in car etc.
Will deal with on Monday mate
Cheers
Richee,
I can help a bit but a bit busy getting the stickers on my first run of Brown Teal Ale...
Firstly, call Steve on his cell phone (021412592),usually gets faster response than email.
Secondly, dont bother calling him till he is back from the states micro brew fest, i think next week some time..
Im out at the brewery sticking labels on bottles next week so might be able to do stuff to help..
"Pisco Sour 40% liquor " - sounds like the name says it all ?
Entries ? last years dry Stout (never held a head, prepared for a low score)
Extract bohemian pilsner with W2112 yeast (great in the keg after 3 weeks, yet to try a bottle) and maybe a northern brown that's lacking hop character so could be a mild or an NZ Draught
