I took the yeast out of the fridge and pitched it at 20 degrees so I know have a soapy taste. thats alright I know what the next comp beer will be :)

Hahaha, planning to lose already! That's not the spirit mate.
I had another shocking efficiency day. Luckily I allowed for this to happen and formulated for 1.058. Got 1.049. No idea what the fuck is going on with my setup at the moment. Changing malt all the time doesn't help. I want my Maris Otter back, waaaaah.
Comment by Barry on April 25, 2009 at 12:29pm
No Maris Otter.... this will be interesting indeed.
No-chilling so was too lazy to check my efficiency. It's all over the show with dark beers, last Irish red I did planned for 1.054, got 1.060.
This time I'm shooting for 1.052, will be able to tell tomorrow once it's cooled down.

Im probably gonna lose, the majority of my irish red ferment has been at 24*c :-/ Oh well, im hoping the 1469 will be a bit forgiving, maybe...

OG 1.054. Fermenting now at 18deg. Booyaa.

I went for 19C. It's looking like a good ferment too. I'm starting to like US05 again after our fight. I think it's forgiven me.

Mine trundled along at 19-20, then was stepped up to 23 for diacetyl rest. Went into the keg on Saturday and was tasted last night. Carbonation seems OK, still a bit hazy.

22 pitching through to CC 2 weeks later. Tasting not too badish. Needs some conditioning... I kegged it on Saturday. The 1469 yeast culture smashed on the floor though - so I dont think this will be a repeat brew... unless I use a different yeast.
Comment by Reviled on April 27, 2009 at 11:54am
Thats a warm ferment for you bro - doesnt make me feel so bad about the 24*c ferment.. Still wont be as fruity as yours :oP lol
Comment by JoKing on April 27, 2009 at 11:58am
Yeah - I'm getting a bit annoyed with the cool ferments. The beers a clean - don't get me wrong, but sometimes I'm thinking I may a well just use US-05 if I want clean. There is definately some yeast character in this Red... albeit a bit crazy at the moment. It's turned the cascade into some real resinous marmalade undertone... weird. Toasty still - that grist is pretty well balanced in flavours.
