Greetings Homebrewers

The next style for WBC competitors is "English Best Bitter" Category 8B in BJCP guidelines.

http://www.bjcp.org/2008styles/style08.php#1b (edited for current style guide - Thanks Raffe)

As per usual, let me know if you plan to enter. I need volunteers for judging again, so if you do not plan to enter, please consider participating.

Our rules are simple, bring 2 bottles of each entry (one to share with the other entrants, one for judging) and 10$ per entry. Winner (total points from 3 judges) takes the cash, 3rd place chooses the next style. We meet at Hallertau in Riverhead at 3PM but watch this space for any updates to either time or date.

Good luck!

I was hoping to retire on a streak of three wins, but I'll settle for two wins and a third place when the two entries which beat me were so delicious!

Anyway, I won't be entering any more. I was starting to feel a bit "dirty" about it, even though the comp is just in fun, and going commercial doesn't suddenly make one a better homebrewer! Please consider me available for judging from now on. I still love attending and hanging with you all, and I've had a fair heap of judging experience lately, so would like to keep my eye (or palate) in.

dont feel bad we need the best compeditors possible! I'm hooked on comps now! I'm in!

I will be in - maybe even with two entries!

Also Barb, you have linked to the 2004 guidelines, the current 2008 style guidelines are here:

I'm not sure if anything changed though.

Thanks, Raffe. I just googled BJCP and took the first link. That will teach me to pay closer attention (or not).

Greig, I think you will be an excellent judge. Thanks!

Looking forward to this one, hopefully there will be some excellent BBs, I've not had many homebrewed ones that have had enough character. American yeast and S-04 just don't do well in bitters for me.  Enjoying my 3.1% baby bitter with 1335 at the minute, and hoping to brew my entry very early in the new year.  Good luck everyone!

Oh shizzle.. I just realised I won't be able to attend in this one! :(

Dude. Weak.

Tell that to my Nana who's having her 90th.. ;)

Well, I guess that's an *OK* excuse... ;)

Sadly, I will be out of town for this one as well. Going to San Francisco for a meeting (and maybe a sneaky beer or 3). I need volunteers to judge, and one to steward. Greig? Anyone?

We have the lounge @ Hallertau booked from 3:00 PM on 23Feb. Give me a shout if you can help.

Happy to judge, and I see from Twitter that The Mighty Founder Himself (praise be to his hops) has volunteered to orgy-nise. :) I assume he'll judge also, so we need one more. Alex will probably be happy to judge or steward depending on requirements. She's getting quite good now. I think we'll be using her at the next NHC!

Glad to hear you're going somewhere worthy beer-wise Barb - wish I had that type of meeting in my job!

If needed I'm also happy to help out.  Keep in mind I'm a rank judging beginner and will need to be shown the ropes.
