I saw a video somewhere where they guy was running different burners on different regulators. Cant find it now but using high or medium pressure he got way more heat out of his burners even an old 4 ring. My 4 ring is a bit useless and I wonder if putting higher pressure reg would sort it out. Does any one have experience with this. I'm assuming my mite 10 BBQ reg 2kg/hour and the steps up seem to be 3 or 8kg/hour. Any advice?

Hey Cain, sorry didn't see this or would have replied to both.

They turn down just fine, I run with two burners (one for each kettle) and it handles two from one reg ok as well.  I have two ball valves in line (one for reach burner) and just partially close it once its at temp or shut it off completely.

I haven't looked back since I bought mine, I think they were $14 each or something. and shipped in 3 days direct from King Kooker in the states.  Readily available from Amazon now though which is easier than emailing a company but from memory it was a simple transaction.

First time I lit them up in the workshop they were roaring like a jet plane, I turned round to smile at my 'mates' and the ufckers were all outside looking in haha.  Was a pretty scary noise though, you'll lose the hair off your fingers if you light them manually :)

the link you have is the same as mine BTW King Kooker, they are all made n the same factory in China though.  There is another more direct burner called a Jet Burner, single cast unit.  They look good too.

Do those American regulators go strait on an NZ BBQ bottle? And is that  bolt sticking out the bottom for mounting?

Anyone got ideas for a cheap alternative to the Honeywell furnace valve? Pricing Ive found in NZ for seperate theremoeletric valve, thermocouple, solenoid valve and pilot make getting the Honeywell from amazon look like a good option and tidier being in one unit. Seen a few cheap solenoid valves on aliexpress dont want to blow my self up by getting the wrong one though and that still leaves the pilot set up etc.

Yep the regs fit on the NZ gas bottles, exactly the same.  Mounting bolt yes.

For all the expense and bullfuckery of putting a gas controller together I'd just turn the tap off by hand or reduce the heat a bit, works ok for me but I'm present while I'm brewing.  Mostly sober too. Unless of course you just want to build it for the fun of it and want a challenge.  Simple lagging on your tank will make it hold temperature for more than long enough for most domestic brewing needs.

Although its pretty fun to make as much techy toys as possible. As my mate Mark used to say, Who dies with the most toys, wins!

My current brewery has locks on two of the wheels, it's like the Amish of breweries :)
