Got my new Monster Mill MM3-2.0 with 18kg hopper on Monday from the states.

Rigged it up to a 3,000 rpm motor 1HP ( coupldn't find any with less RPMs) and a step down gear that looks older than 10 years.. Didn't need huge pulleys then, but $200 more expensive.

Start capacitor motor took a bit of learning how to wire!

Will have to chuck some grain in it tomorrow to see how it goes :)

That's awesome... just ordered myself a MM3-2.0 too, looking forward to setting up and putting into action. Where do you get a step down gear from? Is it just as easy to get a 10 - 12" flywheel or whatever it's called? Mind you, a groove or space would need to be made to accomodate the wheel by the looks of things.

Did you have to adjust the gap or just use the one that it's set at?

Old pump and machinery 2nd hand shop. was more than the 1hp motor. http://www.trademe.co.nz/business-farming-industry/industrial/engin...

Ahh I would've had to get a 24" pulley/wheel ha.. Cheaper just to get a 1400 rpm one, but you will still need a 12-14" wheel for 1hp motors. So it gets a bit big! get smallest shaft you can, which allows you to get a smaller pulley!

motor has to be start capictor as well. Most were dual capacitor and I didn't know if they would work?

ahh comes with instructions and is preset, but got bumped around a lot in shipping, so I might have to read them!

cheers,

Looks awesome Dermot! Can't wait to have a look on Thursday night ;)

Good job there.

I built mine a few weeks ago... hard a hard time getting the grains to go through properly (Big tip; make sure all 3 rollers can moving freely before trying).. combo of gap adjustment and nice alignment to free up the rollers got it working.. but I need a motor with bigger nuts.

It was meant to be a used 3/4hp motor but is only a 1/4.  Works in I get it going and east 6kilos of grain in about 20-30 seconds.

Jealous of that motor / gear box combo you have going there.
