I don't know if it has been announced elsewhere, but it looks as if we have lost Dennis from the Dunedin Malthouse. There is a message on their website which says he passed on last Friday.

I have purchased a few times from DMH and each time Dennis was great in giving advice and getting the right ingredients, and provided a really efficeint service sending materials to Christchurch very quickly. Always a nice hadwritten note on the invoice. From my limited contact with Dennis it is apparent to me that this is quite a loss to the homebrewing world.

This is the transcript from their webpage:

Goodbye master brewer

Sad week for the New Zealand home brew world, our friend Dennis left his brew gear last friday. He was always present for our questions and shared his beer passion to erveryone.

Thank you Dennis

This is sad news. I met Dennis a few times. A very passionate bloke. A top, top man. RIP
You can drop a message on www.southernhomebrewers.co.nz .
Heck, Nick, that is bad news. I got a bunch of stuff from Dennis and the guy Jann who worked for him, and always have found them so very helpful and very encouraging. I don't know whether his family check this forum out at all, but I'm sure everyone who has dealt with Dennis would have felt the same - it's a big loss.
Thats terrible news. Absolute top bloke.
Never dealt with DMH but it's always sad when there's a loss in our community.

Condolences to his friends and family.
:(
I spoke with Dennis a couple of times when I organised a mill bulk buy - he put his name in the hat but pulled out at the last minute.
He was fantastically supportive, very friendly, a heck of a nice guy. Very sad news. RIP Dennis. Condolences to your family.
Go in peace, brother.
Crikey, you never know whats around the corner do you. I've done most of my NZ brewing transactions through Dennis, always helpfull with an infectious enthusiasm for the craft, gonna be hard to replace him.

Best wishes to family and friends.

Laurie
There was no such thing as a quick trip to the brew store, Dennis was always keen for a chat and genuinely cared about improving whatever it was we were making. He will be missed.
Oh man, terrible news! It was a discussion I had with Dennis on the phone just over a year ago that got me back in to brewing after a 10 year break. I ordered from Dennis on several occasions and he always remembered who I was each time I called. He provided top notch service and was a top notch bloke. I had been planning on dropping in to meet him on my next trip down south.

I'm gutted.
