Hey guys just thought I'd share this, bought a pair of chugger pumps for the new build from Brewers Hardware.

Stainless steel centre inlet (thanks for the advice Barry, appreciated as always).

Really good service, fast delivery time and good value for shipping at $70 for both units

out of curiosity, why is the centre inlet better?

Because the pumps aren't self-priming, the way I figure it you want the least amount of resistance so the liquid takes the most direct path into the pump head. The centre inlet ones have a larger (3/4") inlet and the liquid doesn't have to go around any 90° bends to get into the pump.

It's probably only a subtle difference but every bit helps right? And they cost about the same.
Barry has sumerised it pretty well there. Looking from a practical point of view based on the March 815 series pumps (which were the pumps chugger reversed engineered) the SS center inlet pumps 8gpm vs. 7gpm for the inline (max / no head flow). So the center inlet pump will flow approx 15% more. Max pressure / head are identical.
Note: That 15% is increase theoretical and will drop off once you start trying to lift the fluid .

What was the total you landed these for in NZD? I noticed they have them here too:

I have emailed brewshop.co.nz to ask about supplying centre inlet versions of the chugger pump and they said they should have some in a few weeks for the same price as the inline versions they already supply (currently $269.95NZ)
