Home Brew Sediment Catcher

Just stumbled across these on trade me. Just curious what some fellow brewers thought about them.

Experiences, rate them/dont rate them.

Would appreciate some feedback!

Cheers

My opinion?

You're bottling too early in the process if you want to use one of these. When I bottle beer, you might be lucky to find a very slight dusting of yeast in the bottom of the bottle. Bottles pour into a glass quite bright... but a bit of yeast never hurt anyone. If my "friends and family" say no to my ome brew because it's a bit cloudy... I'm glad: there's more for me then!

Agree somewhat with what Jo says, however as homebrewers some of us often find we cant do everything ideally, such as crash chill for a week before you bottle (i know when I was bottling this simply wasnt an option for me, so I was bottling after say three weeks at 22*c - I would still have a cm or so of sediment in the bottom of most bottles)

These things look pretty cool, albeit expensive - even with a big amount of sediment a careful pour into a jug avoids getting anything into the glass. So personally, id put the money towards a kegging set up!

Also, why the fu*k would you want to drink home brew from a bottle?

I've been using Coppertun from Brewers Coop when I bottle. I think its made by Brewcraft. By the time its bottle conditioned the beer is clear. As long as you keep it upright and don't shake it before you open it its all golden.

EDIT- Plus after looking at the ad you can only use it on 330ml screw cap bottles. I pretty much use whatever I can get my hands on so it wouldn't work for me.

Is that the very expensive gelatin in a tiny packet?

That'd be the one. The saviour of the lazy. I chuck Coopertun & primings into the FV, stir, bottle then have a brew!

"The saviour of the lazy"

Kegs could be that same saviour my friend ;o)

I'm working on it. Got 5 kegs, just need a reg and bottle now. Thats the plan for my next brew. Oh yeah, and a fridge to put it in.....and taps....then a bar....then a neon sign saying "Poker in the front, Liqour in the rear", and a dancing pole...and ....and...and
I'm sure it's just a matter of taste, but the signs / tattoos more commonly read "Liquor in front, poker in the rear"!!

"I'm sure it's just a matter of taste"
