Donkey Oatie - Oatmeal Stout. 46/50. Gold Medal, Best in Class, Joint Overall Champion beer

3.7kg Golden Promise
500g flaked oats (toasted)
400g home-toasted "Victory" malt
350g Chocolate
250g Crystal 60L
250g Roasted Barley

Mashed for 90 minutes at 70C

65g Pacific Hallertau (Pacifica) @ 60 mins

OG 1.056 and 35 IBUs

Yeast was S04.

Be aware that lautering can be very slow with that amount of oats in there.
So... with a joint champion what is going to happen with the Hallertau brew? Coconut Oatmeal Stout?
I think it is the Coconut being brewed.
Any idea why?
As I understand it, Steve is being asked if he would be happy to brew both. If not, it will be the Coconut Porter, based on a head-to-head tasting between the 2 winning beers.
Considering how quick the last lot went he might be keen. I thoroughly recommend helping out on brew day if he is amenable.
Sh*t, id be keen to help out if that was at all possible! Allways keen to see a brew get done, specially on that scale!
Who toasting all the Coconut? Fuck you would need a big oven!!

I was originally aiming for an NZ take on an English IPA, but accidentally hit the NZ Pale Ale style bang on! I really love this beer, as does my wife. Will hopefully be brewing it again this weekend as the first brew on my new system.
